=================================================================

This README file contains information about The Collins
Electronic English Dictionary and Thesaurus that changed after
the manual was printed.

Included is the following information:

*    Installing WordPerfect Macro

The Collins Installation program will try to locate your
WordPerfect macro directory and copy the EDT.WPM macro to it.
In special situations, for example when you don't have rights to
the WP network macros directory, you may have to copy the macro
file manually.

* PS/2 Mouse and Compatibility with WordPerfect 6.0 DOS

If you PC has a PS/2 mouse port (round serial connector) and
you want to pop up Collins inside WordPerfect 6.0 DOS, you will
have to use the mouse driver (such as mouse.com) supplied with
your mouse. DO NOT use the WordPerfect mouse driver. This will
avoid a machine lock up when you pop up Collins from inside
WordPerfect.

* Pasting text with Collins and WP 6.0 DOS

Collins allows you to paste text back into a WordPerfect
document, but this does not replace the word you looked up.
Manual editing is required to delete the word you want to replace.

To use the dictionary as a standalone program (i.e. not a TSR),
execute edt1.exe. This program will work from any DOS prompt,
including the Windows DOS Prompt, but will not save and restore
the background screen and may cause the cursor to disappear temp-
orarily.

The Definitions Search function accepts a maximum of 3 search
strings, and a maximum of 2 logical operators (AND, OR, NOT).
This implies a maximum of one set of parentheses.
Read the errors.txt file for explanations of error messages displayed
when activating the dictionary.

Mouse tips:

Certain Mouse/Mouse driver/DOS version combinations may cause
problems with the mouse display when the dictionary is run
with certain word processors. Use the following options when
loading the dictionary to remedy any of these conditions.

/ms Mouse show. Forces the mouse cursor to be redisplayed
at the previous position after exiting the dictionary.
        Use if mouse cursor disappears.

/mh Mouse hide. Forces the mouse cursor to be turned off
after exiting the dictionary. Use if multiple mouse
        cursors appear.

/nm No mouse. Disables mouse support for the dictionary
when it causes problems in the word processor. Use if
        all else fails.

Other options:

/dse Disk swap to drive letter (drive e: in this example). Uses
a ram or other drive to swap the foreground program. Use
when extended memory is available with a ram drive device
driver such as ramdrive.sys (see DOS Manual).

/do Disk only swapping. Disables swapping to EMS; use only
when problems occur with a given EMS configuration.

Graphics Mode:

Except for special modifications made to Collins to allow it to
work with WordPerfect 6.0 graphics modes, the dictionary will not
operate in graphics mode. If you know that the dictionary was loaded
properly, and you hit the hotkey combination in your word processor
and nothing happens, check the display mode of your word processor
to see if you are in one of the graphics modes.
