                          Worldmap v1.0b
                      Help with Drawing Maps

To move around the map, use the arrow keys. You can hit the
<enter> or <space> key at map locations (such as cities) to edit
or view the text files describing those locations. You can also
use the letter keys to modify the terrain type of any given
square (assuming editing is enabled). Hit <Q> when you are
finished editing/viewing the map.

There are eight additional keys to be aware of:
The <Insert> key inserts map locations (places of note like
cities). The <Delete> key deletes these locations.
The <1> key toggles the "river" flag (noted by a black pixel
in the upper-left corner of a cell). The <2> key toggles the
"road" flag (upper-right corner pixel). The <3> key toggles the
"border" flag (lower-left corner pixel). If two adjacent cells
both have rivers/roads/borders, then the appropriate feature
will appear on the map connecting these cells. Of course, you
can only use these keys while editing (not while viewing).
Another key to be aware of is <F1>, the Leap Toggle. When it
is on, you will leap ten squares at a time (which will help you
move around quickly if that is your goal). When it is off, you
move only one square at a time. Another time saver is the <F2>
Minimal Redraw Mode Toggle. With the mode off, Worldmap runs the
usual way (constantly redrawing the screen whenever you move
around). With the mode on, however, you can move around quite a
bit, even changing the terrain in various map cells, and the
screen won't automatically redraw on you. Note, however, that
your editing (when in this mode) may temporarily hide location
names or roads/rivers/borders which would have been displayed
completely with this mode switched off.
The program also comes equipped with a "Flood-fill" key
<*> which will fill in an entire 10*10 section with any given
terrain type. This is a good key to use when mapping large
forests or oceans or any terrain type which is found in abundance
in some given region. Keep in mind, however, that when using this
key, you will overwrite any terrain which is already present in
the area. Finally, the <F10> key takes screen captures into
bitmap format (thanks to Aaron Zabudsky <zabudsk@ecf.utoronto.ca>
for the subroutine that makes this possible).
